Copper Chloride is an inorganic chloride of copper which is also called a cupric chloride or copper dichloride. It is a copper molecular entity that occurs naturally as an anhydrous mineral. These both are obtained from fumaroles areas. Copper chloride appears as a yellowish-brown powder whereas in its dehydrate form it seems as a green crystalline solid.
Its anhydrous form adopts a distorted cadmium iodide structure and monoclinic crystals, it may corrode to metals in the presence of moisture, and itself is corrosive to aluminium. If it is decomposed by heating, emits toxic fumes of hydrogen chloride. As it is corrosive compound, it forms dehydrate in moist air. Copper Chloride is soluble in acetone, ethanol, methanol, however slightly solube in ether and soluble in hot sulphuric acid.
